How to check if you are running 32 bit or 64 bit operating system

People are always confused about the 32 bit and 64 bit Operating system. Whenever OS is installed on the computer it come either in 32 bit or in 64 bit.  If we talk about the traditional Window XP always come with 32 bit Operating System. But Window Vista and Window 7 come in either 32-bit or in 64-bit. 


32-bit or 64-bit is the tendency of a processor to deal with the information on RAM(Random Access Memory). 64-bit OS can handle more Ram and apps than 32-bit. In 32-bit environment you can use maximum of 4 GB Ram but it’s not like in 64-bit OS it can support more RAM. A 64-bit OS can Support 32-bit software and apps. but a 32-bit OS can not support 64-bit software and apps. There would be also some software who will work only on 64-bit platform and some on only 32-bit platform.

How to Check your Operating System Bit Value

Right Click on “My Computer” and Select “Properties”. A “System properties” window Will appear. There would you will see an option of “System Type” that will tell you which type of Operating System you are using either 32-bit or 64-bit.

Using this information you can now download and install the appropriate drivers or software for your version of Windows.
